What changes can Summertime bring to your workouts?
Summertime brings in a natural opportunity to create changes in your workouts. There is always a dance between repetition and novelty in when you are working out. Both are required in the right amounts for progress. However, summertime brings changes, how can it impact your workouts in a positive way? When you starting to exercise again in your fifties, a slow and steady approach to improving fitness is often the best approach. Particularly if your spent most of your menopausal years out of your comfort zone. Gently expanding your comfort zones by tapping into the seasonal changes of summer is a great assessment tool.
Here are some changes to consider making to your workouts:
- In the UK, summer means longer days and perhaps sunshine! It’s a great time to try outdoor classes when the weather is (hopefully) better
- If you start to naturally wake up early with earlier sunrise time, it can be easier to exercise earlier too.
- Opportunity to get some natural vitamin d when the sun is shining
- If you fancy trying a new class, but feeling a bit wobbly. Classes can be smaller at summer time which can help build confidence
- Early morning light helps rebalance circadian rhythms, which many women need post menopause
- Your Gym timetable may change to a Summer timetable with reduced attendance due to holidays and also staff holidays too. This is a great opportunity to try new classes and teachers
