Vibration Training on a Power Plate has been around for a few decades in gyms. At the height of popularity there were dedicated Power Plate studios. Here are 3 reasons why adding vibration training to your exercise routine in your fifties
Vibration Training is a useful piece of equipment and can be used for:
- Strengthens and build muscles – can be used for lunges, squats, hip thrusts and pushups to name a few
- Stretch muscles – improve flexibility with standing stretches such as hamstrings and quads and kneeling hip flexor stretches
- Massage – my calfs love the Power Plate massage
Bonus 3 reasons for post menopause consideration:
- Build bone and improve osteopenia – The menopause is one reason why you may have a decrease in bone mineral density (BMD). Strength training on a Power Plate is one way to strengthen your bones
- Improve circulation and lymphatic drainage – Your lymphatic system doesn’t have a pump like your heart, so it needs movement or massage to work optimally. If you know throughout your menopause you have exercised less and/or had fewer massages, the Power Plate can help get you lymphatic system moving again
- Reduction of cellulite – if you have put on weight during the menopause, you may also have an increase of cellulite. The Power Plate can help reduce this too
And why you shouldn’t you use Vibration Training
There are a number of health conditions that are contraindicated for using the Power Plate. If you have a health condition or had surgery I would recommend you check if it is suitable for you use.
Top Tip
If you have not used a Power Plate before, ask a gym instructor to give you an induction and create a personalised programme for you. This will ensure that you will not injure yourself. That you are using it in the best way for your workouts and to support your exercise goals
